Fairtrade (FLO)
The Fair Trade Labeling Organization, Fairtrade International, FLO for short, is the umbrella organization of the national Fairtrade organizations. The association was founded in 1997 in Bonn with the aim of uniting the many different labels and standards of fair trade. FLO consists of two branches:
FLO e. V. develops the conditions and principles that must be met in order to receive Fairtrade certification.
FLOCERT (FLO Certification) controls compliance with these principles. This is important to ensure that what it says "fair" is really "fair".
The international Fairtrade system today consists of three producer networks, 25 national Fairtrade organizations, FLO e. V. and FLOCERT. The Fairtrade organizations award the seal of approval in the respective country. In Germany, for example, this is TransFair e. V., in Switzerland the Max Havelaar Foundation and in Austria Fairtrade Austria. The producer networks represent the many different producer groups in Latin America, Africa and Asia (CLAC: Coordinadora Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Comercio Justo, AFN: African Fairtrade Network and NAP: Network of Asian Producers).
According to the Fair Trade Forum, the FLO Fairtrade seal is the best-known and one of the strictest quality marks for fair trade. Fairly produced products or products with fairly produced ingredients such as coffee, bananas, cotton, cosmetics, jewelry, but also gold are certified.
High level of awareness
In Europe, the Fairtrade label has a degree of awareness of up to 90% among the population. In addition, a total of 95% of them consider the seal to be credible.
NATRUE
NATRUE is an international, not-for-profit association founded in 2007 and based in Brussels. Its aim is to protect and promote natural and organic cosmetics worldwide. Products certified with the NATRUE seal are always made as naturally as possible.
That means:
Use of natural and organic ingredients
Gentle manufacturing process
Environmentally friendly practices
No synthetic fragrances or dyes
Avoidance of ingredients from petrochemicals, silicone oils and derivatives
No genetically modified ingredients
No irradiation of end products or herbal ingredients
The Vegan Society
The seal of the international association of “The Vegan Society” based in Birmingham can be found globally not only on cosmetic products, but also on food, clothing, cleaning products and other products. It guarantees that it does not contain any animal substances. FAIR SQUARED products are certified by the English Vegan Society and meet their standards. Here is an extract from the standards:
Animal ingredients: The manufacturer and / or producer of the certified product may not use any animal products or animal by-products in their product or in the manufacture of the product.
Animal experiments: The development and / or manufacture of the product must not include or have included animal experiments. Neither in the company's own name nor that of other parties that control the company.
Genetically modified organisms: The development and / or production of genetically modified organisms must not include or have included genes from animals or substances derived from animals. Products whose genes have been modified must be labeled as such.
Fair Rubber e. V.
Not all raw materials that FAIR SQUARED processes are recorded by the Fair Label Organization eV (FLO). There are simply too many natural raw materials for that. One of these raw materials is natural rubber (liquid: latex), better known as rubber. It is obtained from the sap of the tropical tree "Hevea Brasiliensis". The association Fair Rubber eV has set itself the goal of "making a contribution to the improvement of the working and living conditions of the primary producers of rubber by applying the principles of fair trade to the trade in rubber products." But what does that mean?
Fair trade is good for producers
Fair rubber is good for people. The primary producers of natural rubber, i.e. the rubber tappers, the plantation workers and the smallholders, should have the opportunity to take part in fair trade. But the low prices make it impossible for them and their families to have a decent life with their work.
Fair trade premium to improve local living conditions
This is where Fair Rubber comes in: By paying a fair trade premium of € 0.50 per kg of dry rubber content (DRC), it is ensured as far as possible that your production costs are covered even when world market prices are low. In addition, thanks to the fair trade premium, there is little scope for measures to improve their working and living conditions. As with FLO, decisions are made about the use of this bonus: Via the board of the small farmers' association or, in the case of plantations, by a committee consisting of selected employee representatives and management delegates.
The FAIR SQUARED products, which Fair Rubber e. V. have been certified, condoms, period cups and upcoming FAIR ZONE products are made from natural latex.
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®)
The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is committed to promoting environmentally friendly, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests so that they are used in the sense of the social, economic and ecological needs of current and future generations and are preserved in the long term. The label ensures that only FSC® -certified and controlled materials are used along the entire value chain.
Certified materials along the value chain
The following materials can be used to manufacture FSC® -certified products: FSC® -certified quantities, controlled wood origins or recycling material. Depending on the type of FSC® label, it can be seen whether the product only comes from FSC-certified forestry (FSC® 100%), exclusively recycled material (FSC® recycled) or a mixture of certified and controlled materials (FSC® Mix) was used.
ClimatePartner
CO 2 emissions arise in the production of our products, in transport and in our administration . Climate change is already bringing far-reaching changes and disadvantages not only for us and our descendants, but especially for our Fairtrade producers. We have therefore decided to have our emissions analysed by an independent service provider (ClimatePartner - www.climatepartner.com), to reduce our emissions and to neutralise the remaining CO 2 emissions through various climate projects.
Climate-neutral products since 2017
We have been neutralising our FAIR SQUARED condoms since 2014 through reforestation measures in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve. Now we have expanded this commitment to our entire FAIR SQUARED range and activities. We are currently offsetting our emissions in Raichur (a rural district in central India) by purchasing clean and efficient steam pressure cookers. All Fair Squared products have been climate neutral since 2017.
